My husband and I visited the Roanoke PInball Museum earlier this year. Our short visit lasted several hours because we were having so much fun.

Our visit to the Roanoke Pinball Museum was complimentary. All opinions are my own.

Historical Context

The Roanoke Pinball Museum was born from a vision to create a space that honors the rich history of pinball gaming while providing an interactive and educational experience for the community and visitors alike.

The museum's founders meticulously curated a diverse collection of over 70 playable pinball machines, ranging from vintage classics to modern marvels. This impressive array of machines offers a comprehensive overview of the technological advancements and cultural trends that have shaped the world of pinball over the decades.

Located in Roanoke's historic downtown area, the museum's location adds to its appeal, making it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the city.

The Museum

When you first enter the museum, you see an aisle with pinball machines on each side. Lights flashing and various music playing on the machines give the museum an energetic vibe. Purple LED chandeliers hang in areas, and it is very cool-looking. But when you start down the row of machines, you realize it is just the beginning, and there are four more aisles with pinball machines on each side. It is a fun and funky eclectic museum.

The visit was sort of a step back in time. It took me back to my childhood, when my pap used to take me and my aunt with him to a local gas station. While he talked with the men, he gave us each a quarter to play pinball. Back then, it was five games for a quarter. When I started dating my husband, his dad had a pinball machine in their basement, and I often would play a game or two.

As you walk down the rows with lights flashing, bells ringing, and music playing on each side from the pinball machines, your energy flows, and you can't wait to play.

Diverse Collection

One of the main attractions of the Roanoke Pinball Museum is its extensive collection of pinball machines. With over 70 machines on display, visitors can take a nostalgic trip through time, playing on machines from as early as 1932 to the latest models. The collection includes classic titles that have stood the test of time, as well as rare and unique machines that are sure to intrigue even the most seasoned pinball players.

There were machines featuring the Beatles, Beach Boys, Hulk, White Knight, Dukes of Hazzard, the Circus, Gilligan’s Island, Majorettes, Football, and so much more. The list of the variety of pinball machines is on their website.

My favorite machines were the Beatles and Gilligan's Island. My husband enjoyed the Star Trek and Doctor Who.

Fun Fact: The 1992 Bally "Addams Family" was the highest-selling "flipper" pinball game in history.

Unlimited Play

One admission fee allows you unlimited plays on over 70 pinball machines. Visitors can enjoy hours of entertainment without worrying about running out of tokens or quarters.

When I visited, I played at least 20 different machines. I played the oldest working machine and one of the newest ones. What a difference between the two. Technology has come a long way. We were in the museum for several hours and had a blast. I loved not having to feed the machines quarters.
